 Salary: $27-29/hr

Pauquachin First Nation is an Indigenous community on the west side of the Saanich Peninsula.

The opportunity:

Working directly with the Health Director and team, the family support worker is a key role in the community to offer support to families. They will act as the band designate, will develop family support programs, and implement domestic violence prevention measures.  

Duties and Responsibilities:

With a budget assigned by the health and community services director, you will implement a variety of family support programs including family violence prevention and child welfare programs. Specific job duties include:

·        Work directly with families to address child safety concerns

·        Act as a single point of contact to support families to navigate and access various government and community services

·        Work with partnering agencies to support families to implement reunification plans for children in care or in and out of care

·        Assist youth with independent living arrangements and developing skills to transition into adulthood

·        Manage client files and documentation

·        Assist with coordination of access visits and providing opportunities for families to build parental capacity during a visit

·        Document and maintain accurate client records and cases thoroughly in confidential files.

·        Intergenerational impacts of colonialism on Indigenous communities

·        Traditional Healing Practices

·        Family systems

·        Community health promotion and determinants of health

·        Hul’q’umi’num language an asset

Skilled in:

·        Mediation and Negotiation

·        Conflict Resolution

·        Situation de-escalation

·        Computer skills (Outlook, Word, Teams, Powerpoint, Health Software)

·        Problem solving

Ability to:

·        Create and maintain a confidential, welcoming, and safe environment for community members

·        Establish and maintain professional relationships with a variety of individuals and groups within community and externally

·        Work collaboratively with the health services team

·        Create a personal wellness plan

·        Be a positive role model

·        Write and submit funding proposals and reports

 

What we require from you:

·        Post-secondary diploma/degree in social work, Indigenous learning, Aboriginal Child and

·        Family Services Worker, Aboriginal Community Advocacy or Social Services Worker

·        Three (3) years’ work experience in community service delivery

·        Valid class 5 drivers license

·        Vulnerable sector criminal record check

·        Current SFA/CPR-C
